Student Data Privacy
Wilmington 209U is committed to protecting our students' data privacy. This page aims to offer transparency and is actively working to comply with the Student Online Personal Protection Act (SOPPA).
What is SOPPA?
What happens to student data when we send it to a third-party vendor? Information such as names, birthdates, and more may be provided by Wilmington 209U to vendors like Skyward, IXL, etc. What protections do these companies have in place to ensure our students' data is not sold or freely given to others? This is precisely what SOPPA addresses.
Under SOPPA, these companies must enter into Data Privacy Agreements (DPA) with each district they work with. These agreements outline what data is stored, how it is protected, what the company can and cannot do with that data, and the actions they will take in the event of a data breach.
Data Privacy Agreements (DPA)
Wilmington 209U leverages the Student Data Privacy Consortium (SDPC), a unique collaboration of schools, districts, regional territories, state agencies, policymakers, trade organizations, and marketplace providers. The SDPC addresses real-world, adaptable, and implementable solutions to growing data privacy concerns. If you would like to read more about the SDPC, click here. Through the SDPC, we enter into contracts with third-party vendors who handle our students' data. To view the DPAs that Wilmington 209U currently holds, please click the following link.
